Retired PLU videographer, Tacoma resident races to hotel following Boston Marathon explosions

What started as a perfect day for one of the most recognizable marathons in the world ended in chaos, and Tacoma resident and avid runner Kirk Isakson was stuck right in the middle.

“Today started as a perfect day,” said Kirk Isakson, retired videographer and instructor from Pacific Lutheran University. He said blue skies greet thousands at the Boston Marathon, including dozens of runners from Pierce and King counties.

Isakson finished the Boston Marathon in just under four hours, fifteen minutes before two bombs detonated near the finish line, killing three people and injuring more than 140.

Fleet Feet Sports owner just ‘escaped all the mayhem’ at Boston Marathon

Paul Morrison, owner of Fleet Feet Sports in Bonney Lake and Tacoma, said he knows little about what’s going on near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, where two bombs killed three and injured more than 140 people.

“We just walked out of there before anything happened,” he said. “We escaped all the mayhem.”

Morrison left the finish line about 10 minutes prior to the explosions. He said he didn’t hear or see anything, and all of his close friends are accounted for and staying in their hotel for the night.
