With Nieditz's twisted thinking I wonder if he would characterize his police officer Skeeter Manos' embezzlement of $150,000+ as not a "spending problem, but.... a revenue problem that needs to be reconciled." Taking money that doesn't belong to you is one way of doing that or as government calls it "raising taxes". You have to wonder when a street cop like Manos makes $93,000+ a year why Lakewood doesn't have a spending problem instead of revenue problem. Neiditz doesn’t get it any better than Manos did.
Apparently even that wasn't enough for Manos since he's been dragged into court twice for financial judgments against him. Wonder where all that money went since he now has a court appointed attorney we are paying for? 7 come 11....baby needs a brand new pair of shoes! Looks like Manos spent some $4000+ of that money in a Lakewood casino; one of the very same casinos that Neiditz, the Chamber of Commerce, Lakewood’s Promise and the LPIG were so supportive of a few years back. But we all know that crime doesn’t occur at casinos: they have so many cameras there and the Lakewood police told us so.

The murals are beautiful. I have nothing against the murals. My problem is with the useless jackholes that spray tags and graffiti everywhere and why we can't bust their heads with a baseball bat when they are caught doing it. I'm sure it would only take getting caught a couple of times before their manual dexterity would be reduced to the point that holding a spray can would be beyond their capability. Problem solved.

I didn't even hear about this meeting until today. Not like it ever does any good, though. They just let people come and waste their time and breath and then go ahead and do what they were planning on anyways.

$4.50 a day just to go to work (in addition to $3.60/gallon gas, $90 tabs, etc.) That's insane. $1,080 a year just for tolls. And no, the bus doesn't work because it would take me literally well over an hour to get to a bus stop that is still a mile from my office and I only work nine miles from home. Also, no, the new bridge really hasn't benefited me as I work in Gig Harbor and live in Tacoma and never had traffic problems.

Haven't they ever noticed that it's never worked for businesses (hello, Blockbuster) to respond to decreased usage by increasing prices? Why do they think it's going to work here? Right now they are receiving revenue from people who aren't cornered into using the bridge, they are choosing to use it. This will eliminate that completely when they can't stomach the one-trip price.

Tell me why again people thought it would be a good idea to open the door for tolling in this state?

Ack, it's too early in the morning. It's "they" not "the" and "adds" not "ads".

By the way, Ms. Merryman, I loved your "...so start procrastinating now" line!

FormerFalcon,

Actually it has been shown that these mural projects on large wall spaces do cut down on the graffiti in a neighborhood. Large blank walls act like an invitation to taggers - but for some reason, most gang members and graffiti artists seem to respect the artwork and take their tagging elsewhere.

Up in Seattle, the actually hired professional artists to paint designs relative to the community on the boards surrounding construction projects. Nearby in my neighborhood here in Tacoma, there's a wonderful mural involving goats on a wall that had been frequently tagged before.

A mural doesn't eliminate graffiti entirely, but it does help AND it ads to the beautification and culture of a community for the relatively small cost of a few cans of paint.

The state is going to raise the rate anyway. Why attend the meeting? Pretty soon everyone will be trapped on one side of the bridge or the other and they will have to figure out a way to grow business and stop taxing and feeing (not really a word) to death. Yes, I am starting to sound like a Republican and yes, it is scaring me.
