Kids and adults can get up close and personal with big vehicles at Touch-A-Truck Saturday

Kids always have a fascination with trucks. For that matter, so do many adults.

So, if you’re inclined, you can clamber into a driver’s seat and even honk a horn

on a variety of vehicles during the Touch-A-Truck event at Sprinker Recreation Center on Saturday.

It’s set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the center’s parking lot and will include “military and construction vehicles, fire engines, command center, public safety equipment and more,” according to a news release from Pierce County.

Roof peeled back on Sprinker; county awaits structural report assessing damage

Contractors pulled back sections of Sprinker Recreation Center’s ailing roof on Wednesday to find out whether there’s structural damage underneath.

Friends of Sprinker to rally tonight

A group working to save Sprinker Recreation Center’s ice arena, tennis courts and other sport facilities plans a rally this evening at 112th Street and Pacific Avenue South in Parkland.

Friends of Sprinker has been working for more than a month to persuade Pierce County officials to find a way to make fixes to the building’s leaking roof and take of other repairs without closing the 34-year-old recreation center.

County Building official Gordon Aleshire has said he intends to order Sprinker’s closure by the end

Sprinker skateboard reopens in time for holiday weekend

After almost a month of closure, the popular skateboard park at Sprinker Recreation Center in Spanaway reopens today.

The facility was closed for cleaning and repairs following episodes of vandalism, Sprinker General Manager Kyle Wintermute told The News Tribune last month.

The park “is in use constantly,” Wintermute said in a news release issued today. “It has become the main meeting point for skateboarders living in and around Parkland and Spanaway. It’s now ready for the summer months ahead.”

The Harold E. LeMay Skateboard Park opened five years ago and is one of the largest such concrete facilities in
