Buckley elections mostly unopposed; Council Position 3 attracts challenger

Incumbent Councilman John Leggett will face a challenger for Council Position 3, according to the Pierce County elections website.

Marvin Sundstrom filed Friday to run for the City Council seat.

Incumbent council member Cristi Boyle Barrett is running unopposed for Council Position 2, and Nora (Lyn) Rose has filed to run for the open Council Position 1.

Incumbent Mayor Pat Johnson is running unopposed for re-election.

New superintendent for White River schools

Janel Keating is the new superintendent of the White River School District.
Keating, who has been the district’s deputy superintendent for the past seven years and has worked for the district for 15 years, succeeds former Superintendent Tom Lockyer, who retired.

Keating became superintendent in the Buckley-based district July 1.

Keating has earned praise from both the school board and teachers in the district for building a culture of collaboration among staff members, boosting test scores and high school graduation rates, along with making academic improvements. They cite her hands-on style and accessibility as positives.
