A group that distributes holiday meals in December to Pierce County residents in need is holding a summer music benefit Sunday at The Swiss in downtown Tacoma.

Friends of the Holidays is a volunteer organization that is in its 15th year of serving the needy during the holidays.

The fund raiser Sunday starts at 3 p.m. at 1904 Jefferson Ave. and will include performances from Linda Myers Band, Mary McPage & The Assassins, 7 on 7, Chris Stevens & The Surf Monkeys, James King & The Southsiders, Spin Cycle and Tumblin’ Dice.

The suggested donation is $10 at the door.

Local merchants and community members have donated items for a raffle that will be held at the event.

Friends of the Holidays started when several volunteers stepped up to bring holiday dinner baskets to those in need, when a dinner for the needy at a local restaurant was discontinued.
