The 74th Annual Meeker Days Festival begins Friday in Puyallup.
Festival coordinator Paige Griffith said the Puyallup Main Street Association, which sponsors the three-day-event, expects more people to attend the festival than in past years.
This year’s event attracted more than 250 vendors, and four stages will host musical acts all weekend long.
“It’s a celebration of our city’s heritage,” Griffith said Thursday.
The event runs noon-9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.
Griffith said two musicians from NBC’s “The Voice” are scheduled to perform. Beverly McClellan, a finalist from season one, and finalist Amanda Brown from season 3 will both perform.
A new event this year includes a 5K fun run paired with Puyallup’s first ever Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event, which raises money and awareness for domestic violence issues and resources.
For Walk a Mile, city officials will walk a mile — literally — in women’s shoes. The event is at 10 a.m., immediately following the 5K run at 9 a.m.
“It’s a community event,” Griffith said. “It really brings the whole city together.”
