Jovita Boulevard will close to through traffic from Monday July 8 until Sunday Aug. 14, according to a city news release.

The road will close from Meridian Avenue East to the proximity of the new roundabout, which has been under construction as part of the long-awaited Jovita realignment project.

Residential, business and emergency vehicle traffic will be permitted, according to the release.

The nearly $5.4 million transportation improvement project has been a joint effort led by Edgewood and Milton, as well as the state Transportation Improvement Board.

In an earlier interview with The News Tribune, City Manager Mark Bauer said the project is nearing completion and will likely be finished this summer.

Construction started in November last year, and includes realigning the current Jovita Boulevard intersection with Meridian Avenue East to the north and connecting the west side of Meridian to the newly constructed Emerald Way in Milton, according to the release.

Bauer has said the project was started to relieve traffic congestion on the major roadway, used by both Edgewood and Milton residents.

It specifically will reduce congestion between Jovita Boulevard and the 8th Street East-Milton Way intersection, the release says. The project will complete the city’s first-ever roundabout.
