First lady Michelle Obama presented a national award Wednesday to representatives of the Pierce County Library System in a White House ceremony.
The library system was one of 10 libraries and museums nationwide to receive the National Medal for Museum and Library Service. The award is the nation’s highest honor given to libraries and museums for service to the community.
The award is from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Receiving the award were: Jo Cruz, a home childcare provider from Spanaway who has gained support from the library system’s early learning programs, and library system executive director Neel Parikh.
