The intersection at 176th Avenue East and 22nd Avenue East in Frederickson will close for construction at 9 p.m. on Friday and reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, according to a Pierce County press release.

Crews will excavate the roadway, place crushed rock and pave the intersection, the release says.

Businesses will remain open during construction and a detour route will be in effect. A detour map is available at piercecountywa.org/fredericksonarea.

The work is part of a larger project on 176th Street East from 14th Avenue East to Waller Road East. It will improve safety and reduce traffic congestion, according to the release.

Crews will expand the roadway to four lanes, add concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks, install new street lighting, improve the traffic signals at 14th Avenue East and 22nd Avenue East and add an enclosed stormwater drainage treatment system.

The work is scheduled for completion this fall. The total cost is estimated at $7 million, according to the release.
