A major ecumenical leader will speak in Tacoma May 8 for an interfaith program.

The Rev. Michael Kinnamon, former general secretary of the National Council of Churches, will address the topic: “Jews and Christians Discussing the Difficult Issues.”

Kinnamon will speak at 7:30 p.m. May 8 at Temple Beth El, 5975 S. 12th St. The event is sponsored by Bethany Presbyterian Church, St. Luke’s Memorial Episcopal Church, and Temple Beth El, all in Tacoma.

Kinnamon is the visiting professor of “ecumenical collaboration in interreligious dialogue” at Seattle University’s School of Theology and Ministry.

He was elected NCC general secretary in 2007. Before that, he was general secretary of the Consultation on Church Union, which became Churches Uniting in Christ, from 1999-2002. He was executive secretary of the World Council of Churches’ Commission on Faith and Order from 1980-83.
