MultiCare hospital workers are trying to protect newborn babies from the flu by restricting who can visit them during influenza season, according to hospital officials.
Visitors of newborns are limited to two designated people age 13 or older at MultiCare’s Family Birth Centers at Tacoma General Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital and Auburn Medical Center.
Visitors must see security at the centers for a wellness screening upon arrival.
Everyone, including parents, is asked not to visit until they are well if they have a fever above 100.4 degrees, cough, sore throat, muscle aches or extreme fatigue, chills, vomiting, nausea or diarrhea.
Visitors to high-risk nurseries are limited to parents or a designated support partner, and will get a sticker each day to show they have been screened.
