Washington state health authorities came down hard Thursday on a Seattle naturopath they say was too lenient in handing out authorizations for medical marijuana.
The Board of Naturopathy suspended the license of Carolyn Lee Bearss for two years and ordered her to pay a $50,000 fine to reinstate her license. If she returns to practice, she’ll be on probation for three years.
Bearss was accused of excessive leniency in issuing 105 medical marijuana authorizations at this year’s Hemp Fest in Seattle.
Charges say her exams averaged less than 15 minutes per patient, that patients weren’t required to provide medical records, and that Bearrs didn’t adequately diagnose the source of patients’ pain or discuss treatment options with them.
