Ridership up on Tacoma Link, Sounder trains

Sound Transit released its second quarter ridership numbers Friday, and they show a significant increase in riders on both Tacoma Link and Sounder trains.

During the first six months of 2012, Tacoma Link ridership increased 8 percent over the same period in 2011.

From January through June 2011, Tacoma Link had 481,621 riders. This year it had 525,257 in that period, putting it on track to achieve more than 1 million boardings in 2012.

Ridership on Sounder trains had a higher increase, with boardings up 15 percent.
In the first six months of 2011, about 1.2 million people rode the trains. This year the number was 1.35 million.
