Sacramento Mayor and former NBA All-Star Kevin Johnson will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 4 at UW-Tacoma’s William Phillip Hall.
Johnson will discuss obstacles to college access faced by low-income students and students of color, and speak on the potential for change in Washington’s public schools. This event is free and open to the public.
Johnson established the St. HOPE Foundation, which focused on neighborhood development and education in his hometown of Sacramento. It also opened the St. Hope public charter schools.
The event is presented by the League of Education Voters Foundation in partnership with the University of Washington Tacoma, the Black Education Strategy Roundtable, and Democrats for Education Reform.
