Parents and Friends for Tacoma Public Schools will host a public meeting Sept. 20 with Joshua Garcia, Tacoma’s deputy superintendent. A former Federal Way School District administrator, Garcia began his new assignment in Tacoma July 1.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at King’s Books, 218 St. Helens Ave., Tacoma.
Also on the agenda is a discussion of Initiative 1240, the charter school measure that will appear on the November ballot. Parents and Friends for Tacoma Public Schools opposes the initiative.
Would that be the New deputy superintendent, or the Newer deputy superintendent, or the Newest deputy superintendent?? Gee, does anyone else think that some STABILITY in TPS’s administration would help the schools become more successful with student achievement???

I’d love to meet Garcia but not as part of an anti-charter schools event. Maybe some other time.

Welcome to town Mr. Garcia. The first thing you will need to get used to is the minimal and incomplete reporting by some reporters at the TNT.
Be prepared to answer the question which the TNT omits, such as:
Who, if anyone did you replace?
Are you another newly created assistant Superintendent? If so, of what? (Not communications I hope.)
Be sure to claim an office quickly and order a sign for your reserved parking spot, Central school is jammed with assistant superintendents of something and all the good parking spots near the building are already reserved with signs.
Get to Central quick before the New assistant Superintendent for Human Resources scores the good office.
I think you will find the Tacoma School District a lot like Federal Way Schools, except Tacoma spends much more per student and has lower student scores.
Good-luck and welcome aboard.

Richard: Since you asked.
Here are links to two previous stories that ran in March. They explain who Mr. Garcia replaced. It is not a new position.

“Gee, does anyone else think that some STABILITY in TPS’s administration would help the schools become more successful with student achievement???”
Funny how when people bring up charters vs. public schools, stability becomes the “status quo”.

TPS’s latest overpaid bureaucrat, appearing at an anti-charter schools event. The topic of discussion – “Johnny Can’t Read, but His Self-esteem is Off the Charts.”
YES ON 1240!
