Puyallup Hatchery foundation plans meeting Thursday

A meeting to kick-off a new nonprofit group formed to retain and improve the Puyallup Hatchery on Clarks Creek is planned Thursday.

The session starts at 6:30 p.m. at the hatchery, 416 14th St. SW in Puyallup.

The Puyallup Herald has a more information about the nonprofit in this week’s edition.

The hatchery dates to the 1940s and is open to the public. The state Department of Fish and Wildlife was considering leasing it to a private seafood company, but the agency dropped the idea following an outpouring of public concern.

Residents worried about the impact on public access and the effect of an expanded commercial operation on the already polluted creek.
