If we can’t put a bird on new Tacoma Sounder bridge, maybe we could just park a train on it

I’ve been trying to figure out why the new Sounder bridge over Pacific Avenue is so disappointing (see the next item down or click here). I really thought it was going to look nicer but wasn’t sure why.

Maybe I was expecting something nicer so I looked up the architectural renditions to see if Sound Transit actually built what was promised. While it appears that the bridge looks like the pictures, I have now realized why they look better than the final product. The artists placed a Sounder train on the bridge, an addition that gives the bridge height. In fact, my eye hardly falls on the bridge itself, only on the white and blue of the train.

So absent some last minute design changes, perhaps Sound Transit could simply make sure to always have a train on the bridge.

Or, they could put a bird on it.

I like the street below it. Its wide- the lighting is bright. Has that Metro feel to it when you drive under it. Then you enter Downtown and its dark and dead of night life.

And the difference is the drawing is a much lighter blue that matches a clear blue sky!

Who’s stupid idea was it to paint it dark and dreary blue?

Paint it with stealth paint the USAF used on airplanes.

    Now I got it.
The stolen image is a lighter blue than the before and after pics at:

Actually I like the grey that matches the abutments as shown in some of the other pics in the pdf.
    Let’s vote on it…
