Pierce County Library cards could soon be in the hands of more kids. Under a pilot plan that library trustees will consider today, the library would issue a card to every student in the 7,200-student Franklin Pierce School District. The cards will allow them to borrow books and access after-school homework help online.

Under the plan, parents could opt out of the automatic card distribution if they didn’t want their child to participate. If the plan is approved, the cards will be issued in October, as part of the library system’s card drive.

Library trustees meet from 3:30 to 6 p.m. today, Wednesday June 13, in the library administrative center, 3005 112th St. E., Tacoma. Also on the agenda are the results of public opinion research about library priorities and the library’s mid-year budget.
