A Tacoma native will be one of the 25 men competing on the 8th season of ABC’s “The Bachlorette,” which premieres next week.

Doug Clerget, 33, is a graduate of Eastern Washington University and a commercial real estate broker with regional firm Kidder Mathews. According to his bio there, he is a member of the Franciscan Health Foundation and serves on the Board of Directors for Spring Valley Montessori School.

A report in the Tacoma Weekly in March detailed a charity he founded with his cousin called Dollar Per Month.

Users of Dollar Per Month can choose to donate as much as they want, and out of the approximately 500 members so far, the average donation is about $5. But through the use of social networking and promoting Dollar Per Month among friends and family through existing venues like Facebook, users can see their direct connection to helping accumulate much more for the charity than their own personal donation.

An editor here at the paper who is a connoisseur of pop culture spotted this blog that has more detail about Doug. All of us in Tacoma wish him luck!

The Bachlorette premiers May 14 at 9:30 p.m. on ABC. Learn more about Emily, the star, by clicking here.
