Correction: Pierce County Public Works and Utilities corrected the closed stretch of Orting-Kapowsin Highway. The closure is between 264th Street East and 288th Street East.
Heavy rains and large beaver dams have caused localized flooding forcing the closure of Orting-Kapowsin Highway between 260th and 288th Street East.
Pierce County road crews closed the section at noon today and set up a detour route. Crews will monitor the site today and over the weekend and will reopen the road when waters recede.
Recent heavy rains and large beaver dams have affected drainage on private property on both sides of the highway, according to Pierce County public works and utilities.
Why do they blame it on the beavers? Clearly, it’s the fault of the surface water department or the stormwater runoff department. It’s not like they don’t have enough tax money to go out and dismantle the dams.

Yeah, right. The county made it rain, and the county put the dams there. On private property. Where the county doesn’t have any right to go remove the dams. Gimme a break.
