Father John Charles Scott, past president of Saint Martin’s College – now Saint Martin’s University – in Lacey died April 6 at Mother Joseph Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 2 p.m. today, April 13, in the Saint Martin’s Abbey Church.

Scott, 67, died from complications of Alzheimer’s disease, a college news release said.

He was born in Syracuse, N.Y. and grew up in several places around the Northwest, including Tacoma. He was ordained a priest in 1972. In 1975, at age 30, he became the youngest college president in the country when he became Saint Martin’s president, according to the news release. After five years as president, he left to complete his doctoral studies and return to the classroom.
