The Community Garden Summit is the perfect day to switch on itchy green thumbs.
Led by Kristin McIvor, Tacoma and Pierce County’s official community gardener, the summits connect neighbors, unveil new garden sites and bring the sun, all with freebies and a fresh-grown free lunch.
Never planted a seed, or planted lots of seeds, but never sprouted one? No problem. This is your introduction.
Proud of the bean that’s just sprouted in your first grade class? This is all-ages day of fun.
The free event will have workshops on basic and advanced gardening techniques and information, gardening in community, university and campus gardening, and children in the garden.
This event will also focus on the “Share the Harvest” program to help connect Pierce County gardeners with local food banks.
Plant starters and some seeds will be given out to gardeners committed to sourcing a percentage of their harvest to food programs.
Register early, so organizers can plan to have enough of everything.
This year’s workshop features a change of venue:
April 28th, 10 am-2 pm
2111 South J Street Tacoma, WA 98405
This event is supported by Forterra, and sponsored by the Greater Metro Parks Foundation.
