The Broadway Center and EnJoy Productions are launching their second round of “Voices of the City,” and looking for people from througout Pierce County to participate in “deep exploration of ‘Story. Place. Expression.’ The first iteration of the project shared 19 works of visual and verbal art when it premiered last October after nearly two years of development.
“VOC is our effort to animate democracy by giving voice to those who are not often heard as they express themselves through music, film, story performance and visual arts,” said David Fischer, Broadway Center’s Executive Director. “We couldn’t be more pleased by last year’s process and outcome. Now, we’re ready to do it all again, and even better,”
“The 2011 class of participants had a blast working together, and a ‘WOW’ impact on all who shared in their performances,” said Kevin Joyce, EnJoy Production co-leader.
“Now, it’s time for us to invite a new group to dive into the pool with us!” said Martha Enson, EnJoy Production co-leader.
The final group will represent a cross-section of the Tacoma-Pierce County community, ages 17 and older, across racial, economic, cultural and political spectrums. Everyone is welcome to apply by April 30.
Those who are accepted will:
* Participate in five workshops with artists who will help them find their voice and craft their artwork. These workshops will take place on Saturdays in May and June.
* Participate in the exploration of “story, place and expression,” as coached by EnJoy Productions and teaching artists.
* Present their artwork at small soirees between July and October.
