The Bethel School Board will hold a special meeting from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the school district office, 516 176th St. E., Spanaway.

Board members will interview candidates for two openings on the school board, which follow the resignations of board members Joy Cook and Marianne Lincoln.

The public is invited to observe the interview process. Following the interviews, the board will recess to a closed executive session for one hour to review candidates’ qualifications. The board will reconvene in open session to appoint at least one new member for District 3. They may appoint a District 4 candidate or they may select finalists for that board seat.

Cook’s position was in Director District 4, in the Graham area. Lincoln’s was in Director District 3, in the Elk Plain-Spanaway area.

Two people, Kathryn Hobbs and Stanley Chapin, applied to represent District 3. A total of eight people applied for the District 4 position. They are Miles Hall, Tom Mason, Amy Pivetta Hoffman, Matt Hamilton, Ana Staudenraus, Joe Ortega, Michael Audas and David Hamwey, who ran for the seat in November and lost to Cook.
