The group of King County cities and water and sewer districts that owns Lake Tapps has a new board chairman.

John Marchione, mayor of Redmond, has been selected by his fellow Cascade Water Alliance board members to fill the post. David Knight, a Covington Water District commissioner, has been picked as vice-chairman, and Tukwila Mayor Jim Haggerton will continue as the secretary-treasurer.

The board picked the officers at a meeting last week.

Cascade Water Alliance purchased Lake Tapps – a popular East Pierce County recreation spot – in 2009, with plans to eventually use it as a regional drinking water source.

The board also has a new member, Fred Butler, a city councilman from Issaquah.
