Groups have until tomorrow, Nov. 29, to register for the 1st annual “Duck the Halls” Caroling Competition in University Place. UP for Art is sponsoring the event as a benefit for Families Unlimited Network and the UP Food Bank.

On Saturday, dog owners can get pictures with their pets and Santa Claus as a fundraiser to benefit the off-leash dog park in University Place.

The contest will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 9 in the University Place Market Square, located in front of the new civic and library building.

The contest is restricted to people who live, work or go to school in University Place. Professional singers are not allowed.

There will be three categories: large group (10+ people), small group (less than 10) and student (up to 18 years of age).

Groups are asked to rehearse up to two holiday songs with a maximum time limit of eight minutes for judging. They can sing additional songs if time allows. Costumes are encouraged.

The entry fee is at least five nonperishable food items per each group member. Audience members also are encouraged to bring donations.

The Santa Paws Pet Photos will be taken at City Hall, 3715 Bridgeport Way from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Photos cost $10; copies are $5. Those who sign up to become a member of SUNDogs will receive a free 2012 calendar.
