It may not be as big or visible as groups in other cities, but a core group of Occupy Tacoma protesters have been keeping the movement alive this week with small gatherings at First United Methodist Church. They hope others will joint them for a march Saturday from Hilltop to Downtown Tacoma.
“A working group was formed to develop a mission statement,” according to a press release from the group. “Meanwhile, all agreed they were in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street and wanted to bring their concerns to their neighbors in Tacoma/Pierce County. A major issue of concern is corporate greed and the power of corporations in the US political system.”
The “nonviolent and family-friendly” march is set to begin at 1 p.m. at People’s Park, South Ninth St. and Martin Luther King Way, and conclude at Tollefson Plaza. It’s being held in conjunction with other Occupy marches all over the country.
More information is available on the group’s website and Facebook page.
Be sure to remember you need to pay for parking if you park downtown. If you park in the Hilltop, your car might not be there when you get back.

What a silly bunch this is, so childish and weird. I instead will be attending a Tea Party rally dressed as Uncle Sam, demanding that Obama’s college term papers be released.

BSR, thanks for the reminder about parking fees. Happily, the pay stations take debit cards, and I’ll gladly fork over $2.50 to park for the day downtown rather than rely on the shuttle from Freighthouse Square.
sincere, thanks for staying away from the march and doing your part to help us succeed.
Orting, I don’t know of anybody in this group who would be dropped off by parents, simply because many of us are 50+ and wouldn’t impose on our parents like that. Myself, I’d rather pay the two and a half bucks to park.
TJ, don’t forget the Lipton tea bags hanging off your hat! No teabagger costume would be complete without that. Never mind the fact that the original Boston Tea Party was a protest against a monopolistic corporation in collusion with the British government — ring a bell, anybody?

I guess all I can say to those who are happy with the way things are now….When you realize that corporate America has lied and stole from you we will be here to welcome you into our modern day revolution.
Until then do some meaningful research about who we are and ask yourself are you willing to loan another $450 to a bank/WALL Street executive so he can get a massive multi million $$$ bonus for running his corporation into the ground.

This is perhaps one of the more cogent responses supporting the frustration behind the Occupy protest, if you care to improve you perspective, you have to read this!
