Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell, a 1984 graduate of Pacific Lutheran University, will deliver the university’s keynote speech during commencement ceremonies May 29 at the Tacoma Dome.

The public is invited; no tickets are needed. Commencement ceremonies begin at 2:30 p.m. May 29; doors open at 1:30 p.m.

Parnell was elected lieutenant governor of Alaska in 2006, then succeeded Sarah Palin as governor following her resignation in 2009.

The Republican governor was elected to a full term in 2010. Parnell, a California native, is Alaska’s 10th governor.

In addition to his bachelor’s degree in business administration from PLU, Parnell also holds a law degree from the former University of Puget Sound (now Seattle University) School of Law.
