Tacoma Public Schools has scheduled public hearings on the proposed closure of two Tacoma elementary schools.
The school board will hold two public hearings on the proposed closure of Wainwright Elementary School, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 4 at the school, 130 Alameda Ave., Fircrest.
The board will hold two public hearings on the proposed closure of McKinley Elementary School, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 5 at the school, 3702 McKinley Ave., Tacoma.
The board plans to vote on the proposed closures at its May 12 meeting. Board members are considering closing the schools as a cost-saving measure in the face of cuts in state and federal funding.
