South Hill Community Academy needs a few more participants
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department’s South Hill Academy is an opportunity for citizens to learn first-hand about law enforcement in Pierce County. The 13-week session starts January 26. Applications are now being accepted.
Classes will meet once a week at the South Hill Precinct, 160th Street East and Meridian Avenue East from 7 to 9:30 p.m.
Class size is limited, pre-registration is required, and applicants must be at least 16 years old. A background check will be made prior to the session starting.

The course will familiarize the public with all aspects of the Sheriff’s Department and provides insight into the practices of law enforcement and the criminal justice system. The academy also affords an opportunity to meet the Sheriff and other department members.
The class covers constitutional law, procedures of patrol deputies, detectives, internal investigations, narcotics, K-9, crime analysis and domestic violence and more. Field trips are scheduled to the 9-1-1 Communications Center, forensics, jail and the Marksman Firing Range.
