If foreclosure’s a threat to your home, you have a free resource on Thursday.

Pacific Northwest Bankers Association is sponsoring a free Foreclosure Intervention Workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 29 at the Renton Holiday Inn, 1 South Grady Way, Renton, 98055.

The program is intended for people whose home mortgage payments are soaring, who got a loan they did not understand or could not afford, or whose income has gone down. Lender representatives and foreclosure prevention counselors will be available with information on income tax issues, legal rights and the foreclosure process.

For an appointment, call 1-800-368-1455 or e-mail pnba@comcast.net. Spanish speakers will be available.

If you attend, you will need current photo ID, your social security number, W-2 forms for the last two years, your last two pay stubs, two months of bank statements, all documents for the first and second mortgage, and other loan account balances.

Representatives of Bank of America, Chase, Key Bank, U.S. Bank, Wells Fargo and Ocwen Financial have been invited.

Other sponsors are City of Tacoma, HomeSight, Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, Washington State Department of Financial Institutions and the NAACP.

Thanks so much for this story! Members of the Pierce County Asset Building Coalition have been partnering with the City of Tacoma to produce local foreclosure intervention events and we’ll be in Renton on Thursday to assist as well. Pierce County has practically no capacity in housing counseling to guide and assist homeowners caught up in the high foreclosure rate here. A piece of good news: South Sound Outreach Services recently became a HUD-certified housing counseling agency and will be a key source of help for local folks. Our communities also need to work together and drive out foreclosure rescue scammers. A bit of advice: If you get a flyer on your car window about a quick and easy solution to foreclosure it’s probably one of those scams and will cost you.
