JANET JENSEN/STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER - Second Lt. Elizabeth Betterbed of Fox Island runs earlier this month in Point Defiance Park in Tacoma. After graduating at the top of her class from West Point a few weeks ago and before moving to England to study as a Rhodes scholar, Betterbed is taking a couple of weeks off at home. She'll throw out the first pitch at the Seattle Mariners game Tuesday.

Just got an update from Tom Betterbed. We wrote a story about his daughter, Elizabeth, who graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with the top score this year.

Tom Betterbed says news of his daughter’s accomplishments spread all the way up north to Safeco Field. Here”s what he wrote in an e-mail today:

“They have invited our family to the M’s/Cubs tomorrow night.
Elizabeth has been tapped to throw out the first pitch.”

The Mariners’ three-game home stand begins Tuesday, and the first pitch is scheduled shortly after 7 p.m.
