Wring out your socks and towel off the dog: Sunny weather is headed our way. High temperatures are forecast to hit the mid-70s Saturday and Sunday. We’ve earned it. Here are some opportunities to get outside this weekend:
Sound to Narrows: Runners and walkers still have time to register for Saturday morning’s 7.46-mile race, the 3.1-mile race, or the 1.2-mile Junior Shuffle. And don’t miss the 20-yard Diaper Dash (adults in diapers aren’t allowed – it’s for children younger than 3). The events start and finish at Vassault Park, and the longest route loops through Point Defiance Park.
Tacoma Twilight Criterium: The fast-paced bike race will hit the streets of downtown Tacoma (course map) from 3-9 p.m. Saturday. With speeds averaging 30 mph and 90-degree corners, it should be interesting for spectators. Here’s a full story about the Grit City Crit.
World Cup: If watching sports on TV is more your speed, the U.S. men’s soccer team plays England at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Doyle’s Public House in Tacoma is pitching a tent with seating for 100 and standing room for another 100. Sounders goalkeeper and World Cup veteran Kasey Keller will be there to join the festivities. Even if you don’t like soccer, it should be a fun drinking atmosphere.
