Postal workers and the Emergency Food Network are teaming up for the 17th annual Letter Carrier’s Food Drive in Pierce County this Saturday.
On Wednesday, letter carriers delivered food drive bags along with regular mail. Postal customers are asked to fill the bags with non-perishable food and place the bags next to their mailboxes by 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Letter carriers and hundreds of volunteers will take the items to a local food bank for families in need.
Suggested donation items are canned meats, fruits, vegetables, packaged pasta, dry rice or beans, and other foods not in glass containers.
An estimated 140,000 people visit emergency food programs in Pierce County each month. For further information, call the Emergency Food Network at 253-584-1040.
