Beverly Bowman of Federal Way asked her sister for a dollar Sunday. When Tammy Taylor’s son handed her one, Bowman surprised her sister with much more. Bowman shared the winnings of her $2.9 million Lotto. “I always knew I would win someday. And I always knew I would split it with Tammy.”

Federal Way – Beverly Bowman and her sister, Tammy Taylor, are close – very close. Still, Tammy was confused when Beverly came over for a visit on Sunday, walked in and immediately asked her for a dollar. Tammy’s son ran over to his dad’s wallet on the counter, grabbed a dollar and handed it to his aunt. He’d just bought his mom half of a Lotto ticket worth $2,900,000.

“I always knew I would win someday. My dad always said, ‘Bev is the lucky one,'” Beverly said at the Lottery office in Federal Way. “And I always knew I would split it with Tammy.”

Her dad was right. Beverly bought a $2 Lotto ticket at AM/PM in Auburn last week while filling up her gas tank. On Sunday, she stopped into her local Fred Meyer to scan it. The machine said $2,900,000 Lotto winner.

Beverly didn’t believe it, so she asked a nearby clerk to print out the latest Lotto numbers for her. She read the numbers one-by-one, “1-14-16-23-36-38!” They all matched. Still in disbelief, Beverly asked the clerk if she would check it as well.

The clerk inspected the ticket, looked up and exclaimed, “You just won the Lotto! Two-point-nine-million!” She immediately urged Beverly to sign the back of her ticket. Beverly did so, and started to head out of the store, ticket in hand. “Stop!” yelled the clerk. “Put that away!” Beverly stashed the ticket in her purse and headed to her sister’s house where she would break some very good news.

Beverly and Tammy have both lived in Federal Way for the last twenty years. As for their winnings; they’ll pay off bills, Beverly is buying a new car and the pair will be taking a cruise together with their families later this year. Beverly works as an Operations Manager at a real estate firm and Tammy is an Industrial Engineer.

Beverly Bowman bought her $2,900,000 Lotto ticket at AM/PM on 3910 S. 320th street in Auburn. For selling the winning ticket, the store will receive a retailer selling bonus of $29,000.

Seems always to be that the people who don’t need it are the ones who win it..

Root, what makes you think these two gals don’t need the funds?? Living in WA practically requires that you make a massive amount of money just to be comfortable. The schooling to be an engineer isn’t cheap, being an operational manager doesn’t pay all that great. I’m sure there are bills to be paid, there’s food to put on the table still, etc…..life here in this state isn’t cheap by any means.
After taxes, it doesn’t come up to all that much.

VERY NICE to share with her sister though!! I know if I had won—I’d be sharing it with my brothers!

  6. Sour Grapes rootkick, if you only knew this women. She has given her of herself her entire life to everyone but herself and lives a very modest life giving back to the people in the world like you.

Shame on you for not being happy for such a wonderful person getting a gift like this. She could have kept the whole thing for herself but selflessly gave half of it away to a loved one. I believe the net on this after taxes is 1 million. Go IRS go -
