Federal Way police and South King Fire & Rescue firefighters will face off in a charity basketball game Feb. 6.
The game will take place at 12 noon at Decatur High School, 2600 S.W. 320th St.
The Federal Way Lions Club is sponsoring the event to celebrate Helen Keller Day. Proceeds will go to help adults and children with sight and hearing needs in the community.
Admission is free. For a donation of $5 or more, people will get a Lions King Dog, pop and chips.
The police and fire departments have been battling each other in friendly charity competitions for years.
The two departments competed in 2001 and 2006 in the Guns & Hoses Softball Challenge. They’ve also dueled at the Farmers Market Chili Cook-off.
This year’s Helen Keller Day Charity Basketball Tournament includes a friendly wager. If the firefighters win, they get ice cream.
And if the cops win?
Doughnuts, of course.
I can see it now, fire hoses and bean bag shotguns….Oh..er..basketball. At least get some good
donuts…there’s quite a bit of difference in quality you
know. Besides the firefighters can eat them later and
know that they got the best.
