Pierce County District Court and the Planning and Land Services Department’s development center will be closed Thursday due to employee furloughs, according to Pierce County.
The District Court closure is the last in a series of three one-day closures that began earlier in the fall to make up for cuts in the 2009 budget. On Thursday, the Court will only hold in-custody arraignment hearings. It will not operate for purposes of public payments, filings or other related matters. This action will involve all divisions of District Court, including Probation.
The development center’s closure is the final in a series of nine one-day closures spread through 2009 due to budget constraints. The closures are timed around historically low customer volume days and holidays. The Development Center is located in the Pierce County Annex, 2401 S. 35th St., Tacoma. Other county services in the annex will be available Thursday.
All Pierce County offices will be closed Friday in observance of Christmas.
