With gang membership escalating, Murray to join with Pierce County Sherriff, Tacoma Police Chief and concerned citizens to explore what can be done to turn the tide
(Washington, D.C.) – On Tuesday, July 1st, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) will visit Tacoma to hear from the area’s top law enforcement official and concerned citizens about the problems the city and county face with increased gang violence and meth use. Senator Murray is expected to hear about what police patrols, neighborhood watch organizations, and local families are encountering as gang activity escalates in areas of Tacoma and beyond.
Pierce County law enforcement officials report that gangs are on the rise with more than 1000 active gang members throughout Pierce County. The Drug Enforcement Administration’s 2007 National Drug Threat Analysis also lists the Puget Sound/Tacoma area as increasingly impacted by criminal gangs that are the most prolific producers, transporters and distributors of narcotics.
