Timbers top Tacoma Tide again

The Portland Timbers U23s visited Stadium Bowl on June 8th and ran over Tacoma Tide FC by a final score of 4:1.The Yellows have never beaten Portland in six tries over three seasons. See a match photo gallery here.

The Tide continued a troubling pattern by surrendering another goal by the ten-minute mark. It was 1:0 Timbers when Miles Byass scored on an unassisted shot in the 10th. It was already the sixth goal on the season scored by a Tacoma opponent in the 10th minute or earlier.

Byass doubled the Portland lead in the 52nd when he scored again on an assist from Brent Richards.

The Tide are still getting used to the shorter field dimensions at Stadium Bowl, but their opponents are feasting on the tight settings. Tacoma have been outscored 12-4 in three home matches. “We knew going into the season that our back line was an area of concern,” assistant coach Mike Jennings said after the match. “We lost Elliot Morton to an injury, and we’ve tried several different combinations back there since then. The visiting sides are taking advantage of the field better than we are, using their speed to arrive at the goal before our defenders can.”

Against this week’s foes the Tide are a combined one win, four ties and seven losses in

Tacoma Tide FC 1 – 2 Portland Timbers U-23

June 30, 2010
TacomaFC.com
– A defensive miscue just before the half and a late second-half header from the doorstep that found the back of the Tacoma net were the nails that closed the coffin on the Tide FC Wednesday, blowing an early 1:0 lead, to lose to the visiting Portland Timbers U23 2:1.

“We got caught,” said Tide FC head coach Gerry Gray.

After a Daniel Gray scoring strike off a penalty kick in the 36th minute to give Tacoma a 1:0 lead, Portland (10-0-0) responded in the 44th.

Tide Return Home from Portland Without Points

Tacoma Tide 0 – 1 Portland Timbers

May 18 – Portland, OR - The Tacoma Tide FC fought through travel, pounding rain, and an unorthodox start time to within grasp of a road point in Portland, but were unable to seize the moment. Due to a kids’ day at PGE Park, the Tide vs Timbers U-23 match was moved to 11am. This made for an early morning of travel and preparation down I-5. It would all have been worth it if points were brought home, but the Tide fell short.

Tacoma had a chance to snatch away a point in
