Key Sounders say they expect to return next season

Montero

As coach Sigi Schmid said in a post below, there are always personnel changes over the off-season. And at times, Sounders management has indicated that there could be a significant change or two before next season … even aside from trying to replace goalkeeper Kasey Keller.

However, several of the international players often involved in transfer rumors all said today that they are happy in Seattle and plan to return … perhaps for the long haul.

Some responses (with Alonso and Fernandez speaking through interpreters):

OSVALDO ALONSO: I’m still right here in Seattle and I’m happy here. If in the future there’s a different opportunity that will be the right moment, but right now I’m happy where I am.

FREDY MONTERO: I’m happy here. I’m so proud to be Sounders. You as a player, you never know. (If) offers are coming we have to think about it, and if it is going to be better for me and my family and my future, we have to be focusing on what is good for me. But I’m happy here in Seattle.

MAURO ROSALES: I think (a new contract is) almost done. We have a few details. I will wait a little bit more, but I think in this week, everything is going to be news about what it’s going to be. … I don’t want to put a limit in how many years I’m going to be here. I want to be a long time here. Seattle my team, eh?

ALVARO FERNANDEZ: I’m very happy here in Seattle. I’m happy how my season went Read more »

It’s settled: Mauro Rosales out for RSL match

Coach Sigi Schmid confirmed the expected after Sounders training today: Midfielder Mauro Rosales’ knee injury hasn’t healed quickly enough to allow him to play Wednesday in Seattle’s do-or-die match against Real Salt Lake.

In a nice little show of confidence and optimism, however, Schmid added that Rosales might be available for the Western Conference final on Sunday.

“It’s a situation of Mauro tried his best in terms of trying to come back,” Schmid said. “He’s much further along at the same timepoint of recovery from the injury as he was when he had the injury against D.C. United. Obviously there’s

Rosales gets platelet injection, jogs a bit

The Sounders have finished training for another day.

Coach Sigi Schmid was asked how Mauro Rosales’ is coming along from his knee injury.

“They did this thing called a platelet injection, which helps the healing process, speeds it along,” Schmid said. “But that causes a little bit of soreness for a couple of days. The expectation going today was OK, just have him ride the bike and walk a little but, but he was actually jogging. So that’s good. So we’ll see how he progresses.”

He also gave these health updates:

“Jaqua’s back full and into training. Carrasco was pretty

Knee injury could cost Rosales whole RSL series

An MRI Monday revealed that Sounders midfielder Mauro Rosales has re-injured the MCL in his right knee. Coach Sigi Schmid generally speaks cautiously about injuries, but I thought he sounded doubtful that Rosales will be ready for the playoff opener at Real Salt Lake this weekend, and less than certain the MVP candidate will even be ready for the series-ender next week.

“The MRI showed that he re-injured the MCL a little bit,” Schmid said. “So, we want him to lay low for sure these next few days, and then we’ll take it day by day after that. Again,

Hanauer confident of re-signing Rosales; GK TBA

Adrian Hanauer said today that he is confident of re-signing midfielder Mauro Rosales … and the Sounders GM didn’t shoot down rumors that the club has an interest in signing veteran goalkeeper Michael Gspurning. (He was, at least, familiar enough to know how to pronounce the name…)

On Rosales:
It’s continuing to progress. It’s one of those things were both sides are very confident, and I’m not sure there’s an enormous amount of urgency on either side, because I believe we’re comfortable. But it’s heading in the right direction, and there’s a lot of trust. It’s never over until it’s over, but I’m highly confident that we’ll have something done in weeks not months.

On Gspurning:
We know Michael well. He was here during the summer. Big, very accomplished goalkeeper Read more »

Ford had knee issue; Rosales and Ochoa settle in

Meredith

Ford

The Sounders went through a light trianing session this morning at Starfire.

Afterward, coach Sigi Schmid updated some of the personnel issues with his team heading into the Champions League group stage finale tomorrow, the MLS regular-season finale Saturday and the playoffs beyond.

On Bryan Meredith being the reserve keeper last night:
“(Josh) Ford’s got a little bit of a knee issue. His knee had tightened up, so he wasn’t able to go. That’s why Meredith was the backup. … Ford’s better today, we just have to see how he is.”

On getting Mauro Rosales back from his knee injury: “It was tremendous. He’s an important player for our team in terms of what he contributes on and off the field. I’m sure he’s happier Read more »

Rosales will be on 18-man roster vs. San Jose

The Sounders have concluded training at Starfire today. Afterward, coach Sigi Schmid gave a medical update heading into the Saturday night game against San Jose.

On Mauro Rosales: He got through OK. He was fine today. He’ll be in our 18 tomorrow.

On Jeff Parke: I’ll still hold off a little bit. He got through everything today except for heading. So we still want to give him a couple of more games. He’ll work hard tomorrow before the game, but we’ve got to hold him another game.

After tomorrow, the Sounders host Monterrey in Champions League on Tuesday
