Health updates on Johnson, Zakuani, White

Sounders coach Sigi Schmid gave these health updates today, following the club’s final training session before its MLS opener tomorrow against Toronto:

On Eddie Johnson:
Obviously it takes a day or two to assess it. They felt it was a little bit different from what they initially felt. I really couldn’t tell you right now how long we expect him to be out.

On Steve Zakuani:
Steve’s continuing to work. He’s been at a plateau stage, and now we’re going to try to push him again the next three or four weeks. We have a number of reserve

Top pick Duran out 4-6 weeks after knee surgery

Sounders No. 1 draft pick Andrew Duran was on crutches during training this morning, following knee surgery yesterday.

“It’s a four to six week thing,” coach Sigi Schmid said. “I talked to the doctor about the surgery, and it went well, although where the tear was it was a little more difficult to get out. It might be closer to the six week range than the four, but it’s in that range.”

“Both of them are still questionable,” said RSL coach Jason Kreis. “We’ll make decisions as we get closer to the match.”

The Sounders have finished training for another day.

Coach Sigi Schmid was asked how Mauro Rosales’ is coming along from his knee injury.

“They did this thing called a platelet injection, which helps the healing process, speeds it along,” Schmid said. “But that causes a little bit of soreness for a couple of days. The expectation going today was OK, just have him ride the bike and walk a little but, but he was actually jogging. So that’s good. So we’ll see how he progresses.”

He also gave these health updates:

“Jaqua’s back full and into training. Carrasco was pretty

Knee injury could cost Rosales whole RSL series

An MRI Monday revealed that Sounders midfielder Mauro Rosales has re-injured the MCL in his right knee. Coach Sigi Schmid generally speaks cautiously about injuries, but I thought he sounded doubtful that Rosales will be ready for the playoff opener at Real Salt Lake this weekend, and less than certain the MVP candidate will even be ready for the series-ender next week.

“The MRI showed that he re-injured the MCL a little bit,” Schmid said. “So, we want him to lay low for sure these next few days, and then we’ll take it day by day after that. Again,
