No. 1 goalkeeper Michael Gspurning is expected to miss another week or two with a hip injury.

Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said the veteran keeper could return in time for the Sounders’ fourth-round U.S. Open Cup match – which would be June 5, assuming the club advances past Atlanta on Wednesday. If not, Schmid said the Sounders expect Gspurning to be ready for the MLS match at Montreal on June 16.

In the meantime, he expressed continuing confidence in Bryan Meredith, while also indicating that playing time for veteran reserve keeper Andrew Weber remains under consideration for playing time. …

The Sounders return to training today and then will fly out tomorrow for Southern California, where they will meet Chivas USA on Saturday.

A theme in the locker room last night was the appreciation of that quick turnaround, which they hope will let them put the 2-0 Wednesday loss to Columbus behind them.

Sounders Women Add Elite College Stars

SoundersWomen.com - The Sounders Women have signed four college standouts for the 2012 W-League campaign. The Sounders add two University of Washington Huskies, a Wisconsin Badger, and an Alabama Crimson Tide. The signees are all defensive minded, with three playing in the back and the forth; a goal keeper. The defenders are Annie Sittauer (Washington), Lindsey Johnson (Wisconsin), and Ashley Willis (Alabama). The goalkeeper is Megan Kufeld (Washington).
