World Cup final: Sounders announce viewing party, while U-23 avoids conflict with new start time

FIFA14Below are a couple of local soccer news items connected with the FIFA World Cup final on Sunday.

From Sounders FC:

Seattle Sounders FC, in partnership with Special Olympics, will host a live outdoor viewing party at Occidental Park for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Final on Sunday, July 13. Kickoff is set for 12 noon PT. The event starts at 11 a.m. and admission is free.

Germany advanced to the final game after defeating Brazil in the semifinals on Tuesday. They will face the winner of Wednesday’s second semifinal between the Netherlands and Argentina.

More details on the event will be released later this week.

Sounders FC hosts the Portland Timbers Sunday evening in front of a full-stadium crowd. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. PT. Tickets are still available at and 1-877-MLS-GOAL. The 5-match ticket package is also available now with expanded seating to include the upper bowl at CenturyLink Field.

Sounders-Timbers Cup tickets on sale Thursday

Seattle Sounders FC will continue its run at a fourth Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championship on July 9 with a quarterfinal round match against the Portland Timbers. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, Wash.

Tickets will go on sale Thursday, June 26, at 10 a.m. PT and are available at Tickets are general admission and priced at $25 for covered grandstand and $20 for uncovered bleachers and standing room only.

U-23, South Sound FC have new homes this weekend

Sounders U-23 and South Sound FC are both “home” this weekend … but they’re different homes than usual.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, South Sound will play WestSound at Lincoln High School in Tacoma.

While at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sounders U-23 will face the Portland Timbers U-23s at Tumwater High School. That one is expected to mark the debut of Jordan Morris, the top prospect from the Sounders Academy and Stanford.


Jordan Morris returns, active for Sounders U-23

SUMNER, Wash. – United States U-21 National Team forward, Jordan Morris will join the Sounders U-23 this weekend for his first PDL action of the year. The Sounders U-23 travel to Bremerton to take on the Kitsap Pumas on Friday night before a home match on Sunday against the Portland Timbers U-23 in Tumwater.

Morris will be active for both matches following his return from Stanford University, and is assured to see action on Sunday.

The Sounders U-23 signed Morris, one of the brightest young players in the country, this offseason.
