Sounders sign fifth homegrown: Darwin Jones

Here’s the word from the club:

Seattle Sounders FC has signed forward Darwin Jones to a Homegrown Player contract, the club announced today. Per Major League Soccer and club policy, terms of the agreement are not being disclosed.

“We’re pleased to welcome Darwin to the Sounders FC First Team. Morris staying for junior season at Stanford

Sounders “very interested” in UW star Darwin Jones, but he’s still a Husky for now

UW star Darwin Jones has indicated strongly that he’s going to become a Sounders, but coach Sigi Schmid stressed today that Jones has not yet signed with the club.

“We haven’t signed Darwin Jones. He’s still in college, so we can’t talk to him at this stage. But obviously he’s a homegrown player that we’ve had and monitored for a while. He’s trained with us during his off-seasons from college, and he’s a player that we’re very interested in. But right now he’s still finishing up with the University of Washington. Jordan Morris called to USMNT vs. Czech Republic

SUMNER, Wash. – Sounders U-23 forward, Jordan Morris has been named to the United States Men’s National Team roster for the September 3rd friendly against the Czech Republic in Prague. Morris is one of 22 players on the roster for the match. The match kicks off at 11:15AM (PT) on NBC Sports.

Morris, who scored the game-winner for the U-23 MNT against Bahamas last month, was named the 2012-13 Development Academy Player of the Year

World Cup final: Sounders announce viewing party, while U-23 avoids conflict with new start time

FIFA14Below are a couple of local soccer news items connected with the FIFA World Cup final on Sunday.

From Sounders FC:

Seattle Sounders FC, in partnership with Special Olympics, will host a live outdoor viewing party at Occidental Park for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Final on Sunday, July 13. Kickoff is set for 12 noon PT. The event starts at 11 a.m. and admission is free.

Germany advanced to the final game after defeating Brazil in the semifinals on Tuesday. They will face the winner of Wednesday’s second semifinal between the Netherlands and Argentina.

More details on the event will be released later this week.

Sounders FC hosts the Portland Timbers Sunday evening in front of a full-stadium crowd. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. PT. Tickets are still available at www.SoundersFC.com and 1-877-MLS-GOAL. The 5-match ticket package is also available now with expanded seating to include the upper bowl at CenturyLink Field.

Schmid on World Cup: Possession key for USA; hopes Dempsey and Yedlin away a while

Sounders-Timbers Cup tickets on sale Thursday

This just in from the club:

Seattle Sounders FC will continue its run at a fourth Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championship on July 9 with a quarterfinal round match against the Portland Timbers. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, Wash.

Tickets will go on sale Thursday, June 26, at 10 a.m. PT and are available at SoundersFC.com/tickets. Tickets are general admission and priced at $25 for covered grandstand and $20 for uncovered bleachers and standing room only.
