The Sounders U23 play the Kitsap Pumas on Wednesday night, July 15th at Gordon Field in Bremerton with the game having some extra incentive for both teams. The Sounders U23 (7-3-1) are currently tied with the Portland Timbers U23 (6-2-4) at 22 points with Portland holding the tie breaker. Hanauer: Tuesday ‘not our proudest moment’

Hanauer
Hanauer

Here is some of what Sounders owner Adrian Hanauer had to say about some of the behaviors that followed the Sounders and S2’s eliminations from the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday.

Both games had refereeing controversies that brought very public complaint from Sounders and S2. Dempsey was given a red card for dissent after tearing and throwing the referee’s book. Coach Sigi Schmid left the bench area before the end of the game, later explaining he did it to avoid choking the official. And at RSL, S2 coach Ezra Hendrickson posted a twitter picture depicting blind referees.

“Tuesday was not the proudest moment for the Sounders,” he said. “Next to our logo are three words: Passion, courage and community. And the passion, there’s no doubting the passion of our players, coaches, staff – but it may have been redirected in some ways. Ultimately it starts at the top. I’m the one operating the franchise. I’m here every day, so I need to look in the mirror, make sure that I’m doing everything to the best of my ability to make sure that we’re all representing the Sounders in the way we want the team represented. We feel we do that on a very consistent basis. But we’re the bell weather franchise in Major League Soccer – perhaps in North America – and we need to always be at the top of our game.

Sounders U-23 downs Puget Sound in Sumner

Here’s a game report from the club:

The Sounders U-23 (2-0-1, 7 pts.) notched five first half goals on their way to a 5-0 rout victory over the Puget Sound Gunners FC (0-3-2, 2 pts.) Friday night at Sunset Stadium. The Sounders’ forward tandem of Brandt Bronico and Guillermo Delgado accounted for four goals and two assists.

The Sounders U-23 wasted little time scoring the match’s first goal thanks to a nice run from Delgado. After a bit of a scramble just outside the top of the Gunners box, the ball squirted through the defense and into the box. The
