Seattle Reign FC opened its National Women’s Soccer League season today with a 3-0 win over the Boston Breakers.

Seattle got two goals from midfielder Kim Little and on from forward Megan Rapinoe.

The game was played before an announced crowd of 3,021 at Memorial Stadium on Seattle Center.

The Reign’s next home game will come Wednesday, April 23, against the Washington Spirit.

Here’s the report from the club:

Seattle Reign FC began its second National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) campaign by scoring three goals, as well as keeping a clean sheet against the Boston Breakers today at the Moda Health Pitch at Memorial Stadium. Midfielder Kim Little recorded a brace in her first game with Reign FC.

Seattle had the momentum early on in the match and created several scoring opportunities before getting on the board early in the second half (49’). Boston Breakers defender Courtney Jones handled the ball in the area and Kim Little converted the resulting penalty. Little was on the score sheet again five minute later when she hit the back of the net putting Reign FC up 2-0.

After two hard fought crossbar efforts in the first half and a third in the 77th minute, Seattle forward Megan Rapinoe added to the scoring in the 88th minute when she slipped between two Breakers defenders just outside the box before beating Breakers keeper Alyssa Naeher to the ball and rolling it into the goal, securing the 3-0 victory.

“I think the thing that we showed tonight was that we have talent in this group that can win games,” said head coach and general manager Laura Harvey during Reign FC’s post match press conference. “The tough thing about this league is that you don’t play for seven months and I think you saw that in the first half because it was really hectic and back and forth. During the second half, we calmed down a little bit and played the football we want to play and when we do that, I think we will be hard to beat and tonight we were.”

Reign FC continue their three-game home stand to open the regular season on Wednesday, April 23 against the Washington Spirit at the Moda Health Pitch at Memorial Stadium; kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (PT). The match will be available via a live, high-definition webstream at
