It’s gone final at 4-4. Wild, wild match.

Sounders move to 2-2-1 on the season. Timbers remain winless at 0-2-3.

I’ll be back with notes and quotes

87th Yedlin taken down in box, and Dempsey knocks home the tying PK. 4-4. Dempsey records fifth hat trick in Sounders history.

86th minute: GOAL Sounders. Dempsey finishes with determination and skill. Timbers, 4-3.

57th minute: Urruti steals pass at midfield, carries a bit, and then bends it inside far post. Portland, 4-2.

56th minute: GOAL Timbers. Sounders do not close down space on Chara and he makes them pay.

Second half: …has begun.

Halftime: 2-2. Sounders went ahead. Timbers equalized. Timbers took lead. Sounders caught up. Wow.

24th minute: Oba finds Dempsey in space in front of Timbers goal, and Clint finishes calmly. 2-2.

14th minute: GOAL Timbers. Portland takes 2-1 lead in 14th minute, nice turn and shot into top of netting from Valeri.

9th minute: GOAL Timbers, as Chara sends in a screamer past Frei.

3rd minute: GOAL Sounders on corner kick. Cooper finishes hard vollied cross from Anibaba.

First kick: … has been struck. Timbers in green/white; Sounders in pitch black/neon green.

Lineups: For Sounders: GK Frei; D Yedlin, Marshall, Anibaba, Gonzalez; M Ariza, Alonso, Pineda; F Dempsey (captain), Martins; Cooper. Reserves: Hahnemann, Scott, Remick, Pappa, Neagle, Parsemain, Barrett

For Portland: Weber, Powell, Kah, Paparatto, Harrington, Johnson , Valeri, Chara, Alhassan, Urruti, Nagbe. Reserves: Gleeson, Danso, Jewsbury, Zakuani, Zemanski, Fernández, Piquionne

It’s derby day as the Sounders and Timbers will meet in the first Cascadia Cup match of 2014.

Coverage on NBCSN will begin at noon, although I believe first kick will be 12:23. The game will be heard on the usual radio outlets, and we’ll be blogging all day. Additional news and comments will be on Twitter @donruiztnt.

It is a cool, cloudy morning, and we’re told rain could come and go all day.

We’ll be back as news develops, including with what could be some very interesting lineups for both teams.

  1. elmocatt says:

Huge game today against the arch-rivals.

Got to love the passion a home town guy like Yedlin has. Since he is from here, he completely understands the nature of the SEA-PDX rivalry.

From today’s Sounder story in the TNT:
“Yedlin, 20, played only the final 19 minutes against Mexico and sounded all in for the Timbers.

“Oh yeah, definitely,” he said. “Even if I played 90, I’d be ready for 90. I wouldn’t miss this game for the world.”
