Clint Dempsey and DeAndre Yedlin were back at Sounders training today at Starfire before the team hit the road for Portland.
“The whole group’s back together,” coach Sigi Schmid said. “That’s a good thing for us. And obviously their experience with the national team, anytime they bring those experiences back it helps us.”
Schmid said that Dempsey was “a little bit tired, but I think he’ll be fine tomorrow.” Yedlin — who played only 19 minutes Wednesday vs. Mexico — said he’s ready for a full 90 against the Timbers. Schmid also said Brad Evans was pain-free for the second straight day, although still unlikely for Portland. Meanwhile, Osvaldo Alonso — who has trained lightly this week — seems cleared for the Timbers.
Meanwhile, the Timbers have personnel issues of their own — not all yet clear to the Schmid.
“Ricketts is out, we know that,” he said. “And we assume Nagbe and Zakuani are still questionable. … How we’re playing is our No. 1 concern. So we need to know everything that we can about the opponents in order to prepare appropriately and properly. But a lot of that is for us as coaches sometimes. But at the end of the day, the important thing is that we’re playing our game and that we’re concerned with how we’re doing.”
