MLSwestThe Portland Timbers blew out Chivas USA tonight, 5-0, and with it they took the MLS Western Conference regular-season title and the top seed in the coming Western playoffs.

The result settles Portland at No. 1, Real Salt Lake at No. 2, and leaves Seattle, Los Angeles and Colorado playing for the third through fifth spots Sunday when the Rapids visit Vancouver and then the Galaxy visits the Sounders an hour later. A win by either the Sounders or Galaxy would give them third and send the loser into the knockout match between the fourth- and fifth-place finishers.

That fourth-fifth winner goes on to face the top-seeded Timbers.
