Columbus Crew forward Dominic Oduro was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Month by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the month of September in the 2013 MLS season.
Dominic Oduro led the Crew to a 4-1 record in September contributing three goals – all game-winning – and two assists in five league matches. Columbus currently holds the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference standings, a single point shy of a playoff spot.
Oduro started his September campaign with assisting on the Crew’s second half goal on September 4, during a 2-0 Crew win over the visiting Houston Dynamo.
Oduro showed his skill on September 14, scoring the game-winning goal in the Crew’s 2-1 victory over the Montreal Impact. His brilliant touch in the 78th minute capped the Crew’s thrilling comeback win at Stade Saputo.
In the next match, Oduro found the back of the net again, providing the first of the Crew’s three goals in a decisive win over Eastern Conference foe, the Chicago Fire, on September 21.
On September 29, Oduro provided perhaps his most complete performance of the month against his former team, FC Dallas. The Ghanaian opened the night with an assist in the 17th minute to go along with a crafty goal in the 44th minute, leading his team to the 4-2 win. This standout performance earned him MLS Player of the Week honors.
The Crew are back in action on October 5 when they host Sporting Kansas City at Crew Stadium (7:30 p.m. ET).
The MLS Player of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at www.soccerreporters.com/.
