Clint Dempsey (hamstring) and defender Leo Gonzalez (groin) were held out of Sounders training again today.

Here’s what coach Sigi Schmid had to say about the health of his team heading into it’s Sunday home match against the Red Bulls.

On Dempsey: He did more yesterday. He felt better, and he’s doing more today. … I think there’s still a possibility of him being in the 18. At this stage, starting, probably not so. But we’ve got to see how he is.

On Gonzalez: Leo right now we’re being careful with him this week. He’s like in Dempsey’s situation: He’s making improvements, so we’ll see if he’s going to be in the 18 or not for this weekend. We think it might be a situation where we might want to rest him for a week.

On any frustration about not being able to get his first-11 on the pitch together: It is what it is. You’ve just got to take it the way it is. You’d like to get them all together out there and see what it would look like over an extended period of time. Hopefully that will happen before the playoffs happen.
